Artist Statement
Being an artist to me is more than just the glitz and glamor of the entertainment industry.
As both an actor and a model, the name of the game to me is REPRESENTATION. In all that I am and all that I do, representation is the leading factor.
Growing up as a brown-skinned kid of Trinidadian descent, I went through the motions of feeling excluded because of how I looked. I’ve always tried to find people who looked like me in movies, magazines, commercials, and even in sports, the lack of representation made me feel as if those who looked like me couldn't become successful in this industry. When I fell in love with acting and modeling, I made up my mind to show everyone, people like me can break the barriers and be bold, be beautiful, and be anything we want to be.
Acting and modeling have always been a passion of mine, I’ve always thought there was something magical about the craft. To me, there's something beautiful about being a vessel for art. As an actor, we develop these characters and bring them to life from just words. As a model, we shape and mold ourselves into pieces of art with the strike of a pose.
Aligning your talents with your purpose is one of the most important things you'll do in your lifetime.
Everything you see before you came to fruition from my love for the industry and the people it inspires. They say if you want something with all your heart the universe conspires for you to get it. I may not have had a production team to help with the lights, camera and action or an opportunity to pose up with the greats (just yet); but what I do have is the will to create the art that I’ve always wanted to be a part of.
So when you ask, “what is an artist?” My response is: me, Sidartha Salickram.
I may not be the first great Sidartha, but I'm the next one!
